ABOUT THE SOUNDS
*****************
It has never been my purpose to create Techno sounds on the Roland JP-8000.
What I want is sounds that can be used in live performances. On a machine
like the Roland JP-8000, there are two categories of creations:

1. clones
2. really new stuff

ad 1)
Everyone needs a little library when playing in a band. I try to clone sounds
which nobody other tries to imitate because it is THOSE sounds which I need.
The "Jump" sound is an exception, I just wanted to create the best possible
clone and I'm still not happy with it. Everybody needs fat stormy familiar
sounding broad and powerful sounds, the classics are one way to achieve them.
My inspiration were the real analog synths such as the Oberheim or Moog and
some of the digital analog synths such as the D-50 or JD-800.

ad 2)
The real new stuff is JP-8000 specific. I've tried make the sounds sound like
a JP-8000 and not like an Oberheim or Moog (which is not possible anyway). My
fav examples are:

- Oblivion Strs
- JP Power Lead
- Fire Guitar

They show that powerful, JP8K characteristic and fat sounds are possible, and
that he does not have to hide behind the analog dinosaurs. Last but not least,
they show that the JP-8000 is definately too expensive only to be used as a
Techno synth. If you are looking for a Techno Synth, buy an MC-505 or a similar
machine ...

ABOUT THE JP-8000
******************
The Roland JP-8000 is a great synth. It is easy to program, creates fat sounds,
has lot of real time controlling possibilities for live performance. Finally,
it has some great waves which make of the JP-8000 a big concurrent for the other
virtual analog synths, such as the Nordlead 2 and even the Korg Z1. It is just
my favorite synthesizer ...

But the Roland JP-8000 has a VERY big disadvantage, which is that it only has
49 keys. The problem is that in such a way it can never be used as a stand-alone
synth in live performances, unlike the Nordlead 2 or the Korg Z1. On the other
hand, it can also never be used as a solo synth because it is able to do alot
of more and because more expansive than the price of Korg Prophecy, which is an
excellent solo synthesizer.

If you ask me, this is due to the BAD marketing strategy of Roland, who have
tried to sell the JP-8000 as a techno synth. It is too expensive for a techno
synth. In addition, the concurrence is better in this domain, even Roland's
own products such as the MC-505 or the JX-303, for a less expensive price.
So, in the end, the Roland JP-8000 does never get its deserved popularity
... sad but true ...
